The honest answer is "it depends" — so here's exactly what it depends on, what a good quote includes, and how to compare prices fairly.
Anyone who quotes a firm price for plumbing without knowing the job is guessing. The cost of real plumbing work depends on what needs doing, the parts involved, how long it takes, and the state of the existing system. Two jobs that sound the same on the phone can be very different once you see them.
Rather than give you a number that turns out to be wrong, here's what actually drives the price — so when you do get a quote, you'll understand every line of it.
A washer or tap replacement is a small, quick job. A new boiler, a full bathroom, or a complete central heating system is a much bigger one. The scale of the work is the single biggest factor in the price.
Boilers, suites, radiators, pumps, and fittings vary enormously in price. Quality parts cost more up front but last longer and break down less — we'll always explain the options before you choose.
Most plumbing labour is priced by the time on site. A straightforward repair is an hour or two; a bathroom installation runs several days. Anything that's awkward to reach or hidden behind walls and floors takes longer.
A planned job booked in advance is priced differently from a 2am burst pipe. Emergency callouts mean dropping everything to get to you, so they're charged accordingly — but we'll always tell you how before we set off.
Old, corroded, or badly installed pipework takes longer to work with safely. If previous work has to be put right before we can do yours, that adds to the job — and skipping it stores up problems later.
Any gas or boiler work must be carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer, with the certification that involves. It's a legal requirement, not an optional extra, and it's part of doing the job properly.
Buying your own boiler or bathroom suite, or having us supply through trade suppliers, changes the materials line of your quote. We're happy to advise either way before you commit.
Lifting floorboards, chasing walls, or moving units may be needed to reach the pipework — and putting things back neatly is part of a proper job. A good quote is clear about what's included and what isn't.
Tell us about the job and we'll give you a clear, no-obligation quote — every line explained.
